Wool on Sundays

Yes it's that time again; the first Sunday of the month means joining in with Janine over at The Rainbow Hare's blog to write a yarn related post. Janine's post is a tribute to Easter and features a lovely visual story of two knitted bunnies and a beautiful knitted daffodil. Here
I managed to get a fair bit of knitting done during March. I finished the rainbow colours baby blanket that I had just started in the last Wool on Sundays post. It was the same pattern as the other 2 baby blankets that I'd made earlier in 2018. The mum may have been born in the 1980s but she is so much a 60s girl, so a 'rainbow blanket' was called for.
When we took the parcel over to my neighbour's place, we each enjoyed a cuddle with baby Willow...

And what goes with a rainbow blankie? Why, a unicorn of course! Lol

Also this month I have been knitting yet another baby blankie using a pattern I purchased from Tin Can Knits. It is only half way through but deserves its own blog post. Let's just say that a lot of 'frogging' or reverse knitting has gone on in the last few weeks...maybe even 'some hair torn out' type situations too 😉😉. So just a little peep at the back...once again I've used Patons Cottonblend. Sharmayne from the Country Fragrance blog told me of some other brands of cotton that she recommends. And one day I will buy some Bendigo cotton; it was the 200gram balls that put me off a bit originally; especially as I wanted to use lots of colours.

Wool on Sunday...

Once again, the subject really should be 'Cotton on Sunday' as my projects used a cotton blend yarn.

Joining in with Janine over Here at the Rainbow Hare blog, where we show off any projects that we've been working on using yarn. Janine's post for March shows another beautiful cardigan that she has made.

In February I finished the cotton baby blanket for our new granddaughter born in January...

And we actually had one day when the weather cooled down and DD1 wrapped little C up in her new blankie.

As soon as I finished that baby gift, I started another. This time it was a pram blanket size and it was for the new baby that DD2's best friend had had in early February...

And after that, I started yet another baby blankie in cotton; rainbow colours this time. (I had planned to work out a new design of my own, but took the easy way out and used that same pattern again! )Our neighbour's daughter was expecting a baby, due in late February and a baby blanket was to be a gift for her. The baby girl was born yesterday, so I had better keep knitting. This is the progress so far...

After I finish all the baby knitting, I will get back to joining donated  squares so that there will be blankets ready to be distributed to the needy when the weather starts to cool down.

Probably that should be amended to Cotton on Sunday as will become apparent soon.

The genesis for this post starts back on January 22 at the Redcliffe Hospital, just to the north of Brisbane.



DD1's baby girl was born at 3.04 am by emergency C-section after DD1's blood pressure rose alarmingly after a long time in labour.  Both mum and baby have done really well after that was all over and done with. My daughter and her husband have asked that photos are not posted publicly so this next photo doesn't show Baby Carrie's little face...



The little one is the 'spitting image' of her dad! 😍

DD1 had chosen some colours from the Patons Cottonblend range for me to make Carrie's blankie. It only has another 9 or so inches left to go before it's finished. (Cotton works so well for these summer babies as my stepdaughter would attest to. Anthea now has hers in the cot, just as a light cover.)

I noticed on a number of blogs that people are doing 10-15 minutes of sewing most days. I think it's a great idea but wouldn't publicly commit to it myself. Nevertheless, over a couple of days I made DD1 some 'mop up' cloths for Carrie. I had been given a remnant of soft towelling which was enough to make 2; using cotton fabrics from the stash for the fronts.

 I was horrified that DD1 had bought some; paying a considerable sum for such basic items.
