The Christmas Parade...

Last night, while we were in the city, DH and I found a vantage point in the Queen St Mall, to watch the Christmas Parade. Like the Light show, this runs every night up to Christmas Eve. After the parade there was also a Pantomime in the Mall, but we went on to the Light show rather than continue on up the Mall to the stage area.
The crowds started gathering fairly early to get good vantage points...

I was admiring the lovely caladiums growing at the base of the trees...

Just a few more photos of my surroundings in the mall...

The facade of the lovely old Regent theatre...that's all that's left of this beautiful old building...there's a modern building behind...

We could hear drumming in the distance...the Parade had started...

The Parade was sponsored by Myer (a large Aussie department store) and I would say that local youth theatre groups, dancing schools, gymnastics groups, choirs, bands and other groups were well represented...

The theme for the Parade (and the panto) was the Nutcracker story...

 Here comes those naughty mice!!

They were rather acrobatic mice too!

The toy soldiers to the rescue...

Here comes the Sugar Plum Fairy with her Candy Cane helpers...

My goodness! Look at that giant Gingerbread man coming along...

One of the lovely choirs...beautiful voices...

Mary, Joseph, followed by a shepherd with a sheep (obscured)

Mary in white leggings...perhaps for modesty?

Behind Mary and Joseph came the 3 Kings/Magi/Wise Men but the photo showing #1 was a bit blurry so just the 2 to show you...
 Another choir...

Now a whole lot of gift parcels walked past...

And then some elves with more gift boxes...

The next group were dressed in robes similar to American style graduation gowns and all carried what looked like lamps, but I'm not sure.

DH could see farther than me even though I was standing on the wall of the raised garden beds and he said that there were some small deer coming...
Then I saw them and they were pulling a sleigh! And the man in the red suit was in that sleigh!!

A brass ensemble..

And the end of the Parade now...an inflatable steam engine...
I really enjoyed the Parade and we got photos of most of it but some groups got past without us 'capturing' them in a photo. A lovely evening all round for families and lots of excitement for the 'littlies'.

Hi Maria. I have enjoyed catching up with your posts this morning. I love how you take your readers on a 'virtual tour' of the sights of Brisbane as we celebrate Christmas. Happy Christmas to you and DH.

This looks great Maria - I can remember years ago growing up in Brisbane going in to see the Christmas display at Myers. I didn't know they still did this. cheers Wendy

How fun it must have been to watch the Christmas parade! We don't have anything like that here. And for me it is fun to see how lightly dressed people were, No warm hats and mittens :)
