Celebrating a 70th Birthday in Style...

No not mine! Lol. Yesterday a group of Sunday Stitchers celebrated Helen's 70th birthday with a high tea at Parliament House, Brisbane.
One side of the table...
The other side of the table...and there is the birthday girl right there in the middle!
The venue was the Strangers Bar. When parliament is sitting it is the politicians dining room, but when it is not being used for that purpose, there are high teas and also the room can be hired for private functions. It's very grand...
Silverware...the little silver teapot actually contained milk :-)
Champers and china decorated with gold...our water glasses were quite fancy too!
Plates of treats...

This plate was special!

It was the birthday girl's cake plate  and it had a message...
Even though I'm pretty much back to a normal diet, I have to still avoid 'dry foods'. The staff had been alerted to this and a beautiful silver sauceboat was set before me...it contained custard. My diet sheet suggests custard on cake...but I also put it on the scone...it was delicious. :-)
And the dining room was entertained by a duo...very nice too!

After the high tea, we were taken on a tour of selected areas of this grand old building. Unfortunately photography was not allowed in these areas. But we saw the old Legislative Council Chamber, the Legislative Assembly Chamber, walked up the magnificent curving staircase to visit an old library.

And I've borrowed a photo collage from Teresa to finish off with...
We all agreed that it had been a wonderful way to celebrate Helen's special birthday.

How good to have so mnay friends to celebrate the birthday with and what a great place to have it, I take it you enjoy the custard with all you have had to eat of it, hopefully you will soon be back to a normal diet. It must have been so interesting to see around Parliament House and what a great idea to open it to the public for meals etc when parliament are not sitting.
