Wool on Sunday...

Wow, I realise that I've been very slack in writing blog posts lately; no particular reason...just general busyness. But I do have some 'yarny' projects to share for Wool on Sunday, so I've found time to knit. πŸ˜‰
Our parish art and craft show is being held in late July this year and as well as the usual exhibitors, the committee has invited a number of Indigenous artists to display their work. I decided to go along with that theme and make a throw in Indigenous colours to donate for sale at the art show. The Aboriginal flag consists of 3 colours;  black, red and a gold/yellow.

I just have to put a fringe on the ends, sew my label on and it's already to hand over to the committee.
I also have another of my ripple/chevron throws on the needles too. If I have it finished in time I plan to donate that to the Art and Craft Show as well. But if it's not finished in time, I won't stress.

About 15 years ago I knitted a throw for a friend as a Christmas gift. It was in her favourite colour pink, with a black background.

Lee loved her blankie but her cat Sabrina Maud loved it too! We always joked about Sabrina Maud reluctantly sharing the throw with her owner. I do have a photo of the cat reclining on 'her throw' but can't find it. Any way, sadly Sabrina Maud died a few months ago and what a sad time for my friend and her DH. Last week they adopted a new rescue cat...7 year old, Audrey Maud. And guess what she likes to curl up on??? πŸ˜‰πŸ˜†

Yep, that same blankie!

Wool on Sundays

Joining in with Wool on Sunday on Janine's Rainbow Hare blog. Janine wrote a lovely post about a family treasure; a vintage china doll called Iris. Janine waited a long time for the doll to be passed down to her and has made some lovely knitted dolls' clothes for Iris. Read about Iris here...
So what yarn related things have I been up to recently? In the last month I have finished one knitting project and started another.

DD2 had seen a 'rainbow' baby blanket in ripple stitch for sale online and fell in love with the colours. I offered to make something similar, but knitted rather than crocheted.
I went online looking for yarn in all those bright colours and decided on Heirloom Colourworks 8 ply wool. I hadn't used this yarn before and what a lovely surprise it was...the softness of the yarn was amazing! It knitted up quickly and by mid July, little Holly had a new blankie.
On the 'handover day', I took some photos...

But after I got home that day, DD2 had been busy taking photos and sent me these...the photos really show all those bright colours that the young mums love so much these days...

After that project was completed I started on yet another ripple stitch/chevron throw. Last year when my  hairdresser  got married I had given her an IOU for a knitted throw as a wedding present. It took ages to get her to suggest colours etc but finally at my June appointment, she said she liked the combination of pinks with blacks.

So it's about a third done; it's been fun gathering up all the pinks in my stash and buying a few new ones.

Wool on Sunday...

In February, my cousin from Western Australia rang me with some terrible news. She had been diagnosed with cancer; she had a large tumour on one of her kidneys. My cousin was facing a major operation to remove both the tumour and the kidney.
Good news is that she has successfully come through the surgery and does not require chemo...a great result!
In these circumstances I usually try to make something that can go towards cheering up the recipient. And so it was this time and I was able to post a knitted throw to Terese. Because I wanted something that could be knitted quickly, it was that old favourite of mine...the chevron/ripple stitch. In this version I knitted an 8 ridge black stripe between the purples/mauves/blues.

And it achieved that outcome. 😊

Wool on Sundays...

My goodness the last week has gone quickly; doesn't seem like a week since my last Wool on Sunday post! Linking up my post with Janine's Rainbow Hare blog.
During last week I finished the 'knitting part' of that ripple/chevron throw in blues and black. I just have the fringing to do, label to sew on and a couple of ends to weave in. (I usually weave the ends in as I change colours but there's always a few that somehow weren't knitted in)
And last night DD1 and Cam dropped in and of course I showed Cam his new rug...he no longer has to share my daughter's pink blankie! lol. We got him to 'model' it for a photo...he was really thrilled as we had kept it a secret that he was getting his own throw. Next time they're over visiting, it will be all finished and able to go home with them.
Notice how Eduardo was sitting in his favourite spot and he wasn't moving for anyone! πŸ˜€
Last week's post was about my 'missing' started ripple throw. Some of the yarn that I bought the other month on my visit to the Bendigo Woollen Mill, will be just perfect for it!
But I have a few 'must do' projects that might have to come first...one will entail working with the purples in my yarn stash! 😊
