Wool on Sunday...

Wow, I realise that I've been very slack in writing blog posts lately; no particular reason...just general busyness. But I do have some 'yarny' projects to share for Wool on Sunday, so I've found time to knit. 😉
Our parish art and craft show is being held in late July this year and as well as the usual exhibitors, the committee has invited a number of Indigenous artists to display their work. I decided to go along with that theme and make a throw in Indigenous colours to donate for sale at the art show. The Aboriginal flag consists of 3 colours;  black, red and a gold/yellow.

I just have to put a fringe on the ends, sew my label on and it's already to hand over to the committee.
I also have another of my ripple/chevron throws on the needles too. If I have it finished in time I plan to donate that to the Art and Craft Show as well. But if it's not finished in time, I won't stress.

About 15 years ago I knitted a throw for a friend as a Christmas gift. It was in her favourite colour pink, with a black background.

Lee loved her blankie but her cat Sabrina Maud loved it too! We always joked about Sabrina Maud reluctantly sharing the throw with her owner. I do have a photo of the cat reclining on 'her throw' but can't find it. Any way, sadly Sabrina Maud died a few months ago and what a sad time for my friend and her DH. Last week they adopted a new rescue cat...7 year old, Audrey Maud. And guess what she likes to curl up on??? 😉😆

Yep, that same blankie!
Linking up this post with Janine's Rainbow Hare Blog. Despite the heatwave in the U.K., Janine has been busy with the knitting needles and there are also photos of a gorgeous crochet project as well as progress on an appliqué project Here

Last Friday night...

Last Friday night DH and I went to the Opening of the Parish Art Show...
Craft in the church...

Paintings in the Hall...

I was so busy checking out the craft tables, I forgot to help myself to a glass of wine...food and drinks are included in the admission price! Lol

The weather had turned cold, so knowing how chilly the church and hall can be, I 'rugged up' a bit...
The show was opened by Kate Jones, MLA, our local state member. She is the Education Minister in the present state government...if I still worked, she would be my 'Supreme boss'! Lol. While she waited for her official duties to begin, Kate sat next to me!!
Pretty soon it was time for the Speeches...
This year I did not complete my usual knitted throw donation...it's still half finished...
So to help parish funds, DH bought a painting instead! In the next photo, DH is supervising the placing of the red dot sticker for sold...
The painting is called Abandoned and we thought it was an excellent choice as a gift for a relative who lives overseas...old farm buildings and gum trees.
I bought a number of smaller items, mainly gifts for the little people in my life...my niece's children. This is my favourite purchase...
A little portable blackboard with pockets holding chalk and a blackboard cleaner...
The show ran all last weekend. But numbers were down as were the proceeds. But everyone in the parish helped in some way and that always makes it special.

FNwF...and it's that time of year again!

Last night I joined in with others over at Cheryll's blog, for Friday Night with Friends. And last night, I knitted...

As I wrote in the subject line, it's that time of year when I am making a throw to donate to our Parish Art Show.  I am classed as an exhibitor but I do not take my 75% if the item sells, instead all proceeds from the sale go to the parish funds.

This is this year's project... a throw knitted in mohair yarns, using waffle stitch, which is yet again a favourite slipstitch pattern, and very easy.

The background is grey...somehow I seem to have a large collection of Patons grey mohair...I don't particularly like grey, so I decided that this year, I was going to use it up! The main colour in waffle stitch uses a lot of yarn...perfect! So that's how this throw 'evolved'. I had planned to name this throw, 'Fifty shades WITH grey' but as each colour block is several centimetres deep, 50 different colours may make it too long. A way around that would be to use some of my variegated mohair which can have many different colours and shades in the one yarn.

I found some photos of previous entries too!

Last year's throw while being knitted; I've forgotten what I named this one...

I called this one 'Carmen's Rug' because I had asked my friend to buy this one when I put it in the show...which her husband did! lol
And this one was the 2011 entry which I called 'Over Hill and Dale'. When I handed it in, Marg, the lady who was taking the craft entries that day, fell in love with it. After an unsettled night waking up thinking 'Will I  or won't I buy that rug'? she rang the organiser in the morning and bought it!

Why not use the link to see what other people who signed up for FNwF did...you will be amazed!
