Wool on Sundays...

Before I write about yarn related 'things', I would first like to thank all those who wrote comments on my last blog post. I wrote about the health issues of our latest addition to the family and I'm pretty sure I wrote back to most who took the time to comment. But if you are reading this mamasmercantile and busybusybeejay, I wasn't able to send you a personal thanks as you are both 'no reply bloggers' which means your email address is not linked to your blog. If either of you would like me to answer your comments, if you use the email button on my page, send me an email, and then I can save your email address and use it to respond to your comments.

Now Wool on Sunday...

Last month at Sunday Stitchers I showed my progress with my latest baby blanket...if you remember it needed a lot of focused attention and in my case...lots of 'reverse knitting' and re-knitting.

Helen's photo of me during Show and Tell...

I don't think I've done any knitting on this since this photo was taken. I always take Knitting or crocheting on holidays but I didn't think it prudent to take such a project as that blanket...lol

So I took some red, black and gold/yellow yarn and a crochet hook. You see, my blogging and also Sunday Stitchers friend, Susan had been making squares in those colours to give to me to make into blankets for K4BN. They are the colours of the Indigenous flag and items made in those colours are very popular when items are handed out to the needy. ( You probably can 'read between lines' in that last sentence) Susan also makes squares in lots of other colours and I've made a number of blankets over the years from her squares.

So I thought I would crochet some granny squares while we were on holidays...nice and easy! Between us, Susan (18) and I (12) have made 30 squares...a single bed sized blanket when all the squares are joined.

I laid the squares out and moved them around until I liked the effect...then bundled them up into rows ready to join when I get some time.

After I started stacking up the squares, I realised I should have taken a photo. But I just took a photo of the ones left in rows...

My plan is to join all the squares, crochet around the edges etc before the May Sunday Stitchers Meet up. Just have to make some time. 😉

Once again linking with Janine's Rainbow Hare blog. Janine is also finding it hard to find time to knit a baby project. The yarn she is using looks so soft.

Wool on Sunday...

For a number of years I've been 'pinning things' on my Pinterest boards. probably about 3 years ago I pinned a pattern from the Deramores website with the idea that I could purchase the pattern if and when I needed it. It was the sweetest baby blanket.
Then last year with the arrival of little Anthea, I thought that it was time to purchase the pattern.

I went to the website and found that the pattern was out of stock. So I wrote to Deramores asking when it would be available. The answer came back that I should check the website in a week's time and if the pattern was still out of stock that would mean that they would no longer be stocking it. I found after the week was up that it was still out of stock. I thought that I could probably make the blankie from the picture but decided to use another pattern to make Anthea's blanket. ( which her mum loved!)

When someone pins something from one of my Pinterest boards, of course I get an email. I usually don't bother to check out what they have pinned but the other day I did. And it was the Deramores' baby blanket. I thought how disappointed people must be if they follow the link and find the pattern isn't available...and then I followed the link. And what a surprise...'out of stock' was NOT written anywhere on the pattern listing.
So I bought a copy...it's not digital and is being posted from the UK.
So here is this pattern that I fell in love with 3 or so years ago.

In other yarn related 'stuff', I have 2 WiPs at the moment...both gifts, and occasionally I have been joining donated squares into blankets for K4BN.

Wool on Sunday...

Once again I'm joining in Rainbow Hare's Wool on Sundays, where bloggers write posts about anything which is yarn themed, and then link it to Janine's blog.
Last year, in a few Wool on Sunday posts, I wrote about a baby blanket that I had been working on. Each post showed the progress I was making. Well just before Christmas, I had finally finished that special project and after a little photo shoot, it was posted off to its new home in Victoria.
Here it is laid out on the bed in one of our bedrooms. Gerald Bear and Dolly who normally 'reside' on this bed, just had to be included in photos.

Then it was all folded up and tied with ribbon...

Now it just so happened that around the same time, the 'mum to be' posted some photos of the newly decorated baby nursery on her Facebook page. I have asked her if I could share those photos on my blog, so here they are.

And on the wall is something very special. My friend, who is the grandma, still had some baby clothes that had been her daughter's. My friend had them framed for the nursery...so precious!

And just a little while ago, little Sally was born and is now home in her lovely nursery.
Thank you Janet and Iain for allowing me to use your photos.
