Let's Get Stitched Brisbane 2018; Part 3

The third shop that we visited on our bus trip was Voodoo Rabbit at Annerley. This tiny shop has always had the reputation of having unusual and even quirky fabrics, along with the more usual range of patchwork fabrics, patterns and notions.

The window display was certainly quirky 😉

And a better look at that sewer, without the glass of the shop window in the way!

The little shop soon got very crowded with ladies eager to purchase items...

Just the owner Kylie was there to serve...and I decided rather quickly that I didn't need anything.
The next stop was our hotel and weren't we all glad to go and have a rest before the Pizza and Games Night. Bus trips sure can be tiring! Lol
The evening started off very sedately...

After our pizzas we had the Supplies Swap. Up to 3 crafting items in our stashes that we no longer needed could be brought along and for each item we were given a number. When the number was called you had to dash out to the table where all the items were placed and quickly choose an item. I had #12, 13, 14, so had quite a good choice of items. Those at the end did not have such good choices.
I chose fabric bundles...you know I need fabric...not! (The items I brought along for the Swap were 2 kits that I now know will never make up and a ziplock bag of doilies. )

We played some crazy games...

We each had been asked to bring along a paper bag which contained a fat quarter, a card of 6 buttons and another sewing notion such as needles etc. ( in other years it was always a charm square pack and they had been getting expensive) . The 'left- right' game was played like pass the parcel and at the end we each kept the bag we were holding. These were the contents of the one I got...

Just a few days before I had been thinking of the Olivia the Pig books that I had given to great nieces  a few years ago. So I was thrilled to see Olivia and friends on this fat quarter.
On the Saturday I checked out of the hotel in the morning and headed home. But on Saturday night I headed back to meet the others for our dinner at the Morrison Hotel. That couldn't be missed; the steaks there are always superb! We took up 3 large tables.

And my steak meal did not disappoint.

To end the evening we all received one of these...

I had thoroughly enjoyed my time with all the Let's Get Stitched Ladies.

Saturday at Let's Get Stitched...

Another Saturday has come around and I'm only getting around to writing about the Saturday of last weekend!
Traditionally this is a free day at a LGS weekend with the LGS dinner on the Saturday night. My lovely DH collected my roommates and I late in the morning and off we went to do some sightseeing.
First stop was Mt Coot-tha Lookout but the view of the city was a bit hampered by haze. Normally you can see the Sandhills of the islands from the lookout.
Next stop was the Mt Cootha Botanical Gardens for a walk around which included succulents, the tropical plants sections, including the Dome, and even a bit of the fernery.

In the Dome which contains a collection of tropical plants we were particularly taken with this plant...
Note the berry like things growing on the branches...

This is what the label said...

Yes it is a cacao tree...chocolate! Lol.
We found an interesting chair and had to try it out. We thought it was like something you would see in Alice in Wonderland! :-)

We had a delicious lunch in the Gardens Cafe and I was pleasantly surprised! The food was great and reasonably priced! My city and I didn't know that! Lol.
My plan was that after lunch we would visit some Northside quilt/fabric shops. Good job I checked the websites in the car...all of them closed at 1pm on a Saturday! Oh dear...a quick change of plans. We took my South Australian roommates to Redcliffe instead...and...they loved what we took them to see there.

The Bee Gees Walk!
After a cup of coffee, DH drove us back to our hotel. Time for a rest before we headed off to dinner...and boy what a surprise that was going to be!
Dinner was at the nearby Morrison Hotel...

An area had been set up for us...in this large room...then we noticed the wallpaper...ahem...interesting to say the least! The early comers, including myself, started taking photos....here's one of yours truly posing in front of this interesting wallpaper...
And there was an interesting table lamp in the corner...
(The 'heads' you can see are the cut outs of Sam and Robyn who couldn't attend LGS this year so the cut outs came instead)
Now we wondered whether Joy, the organiser of the event, had previously checked out this venue...this is her reaction when she saw the wallpaper...for the first time it seems, lol.
Needless to say it will be a story that will become legendary in LGS 'folklore'. Lol
When our food arrived we discovered why the Morrison Hotel has such a wonderful reputation for its food...it was beautiful food!
My eye fillet steak with a very nice Steak Dianne Sauce...yum!
After a great night it was time to head back to our hotel as the Sunday Stitching Day would be a big one.
Another view of THAT wallpaper! It would have been considered quite risqué at one time and it's possible that this decor was chosen to reflect the rather seedy nature of this part of town in the early years of the 20th Century.
Some rather interesting businesses apparently operated in this part of town...cough cough!
