Our Calendar for 2015...

For a number of years, DH and I have had a calendar printed as a Christmas gift for family members. DH and I usually collaborate about which photos from our 'collection' to use, but at the end of last year, DH gave up on waiting for my input and went ahead with the photos that he had selected. I always say not to use any photos with me in them, but for 2015, a few 'got through'. :-)
The front cover...
The entrance to the Beatles Museum in Liverpool
January...
The HMS Victory, the Duke of Wellington's ship at Portsmouth
February...

The Blackpool Tower...
March...
The lovely gardens in front of the Calais Town Hall...

April...

The beautiful Sacre Couer in Paris...

May...
Doc Martin's cottage (the smaller one on the left) in Port Isaac...

June....

A narrow boat negotiating a lock on the Rochdale Canal in Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire...

July...

Photo time in the press interview room during our tour of Wimbledon...

August...not a photo I would have chosen...with the props (hat and glass of beer) in one of the staff messes on board the former royal yacht, Britannia in Leith.

September...

So that is our calendar for 2015.

Blackpool...

DH and I took a little detour and went to Blackpool on the way to Carlisle. DH had visited this seaside town in 1981 but it was a first for me.
The trams are rather new models...very smart and up to date...

The Tower is quite a landmark and DH had memories of it from 1981... The scaffolding around it meant it was getting some maintenance/restoration work done...

Across the road from the tower building, there was this large square/plaza which looks fairly new...this area was beautifully paved and the paving was covered with writing...on closer examination we found that names of British entertainers were written plus quotes from films, variety shows and TV shows were also written on the paving.

This is part of a scene from Fawlty Towers which made me smile again at Basil's sarcasm...

DH liked this one...

Since I first worked on this post, I have found out that this plaza is known as the Comedy Carpet and I found a site which tells us all about it! Good on you Blackpool...clever idea; but so expensive too I guess! If you have time, have a read here...

Blackpool has 2 piers...

Both were closed...I've since been told that the piers suffered severe storm damage ....

Look at the very wide staircase heading down to the sand...very impressive!

But there has been lots of landscaping done above the beachfront... This rock looked like a good spot to 'perch'...

Some of the buildings along the road ...

A little farther back from the beach front are the shopping complexes...

Blackpool is famous for its illuminations...lights strung up along the esplanade...

And here is a group on a walking tour of the beachfront...

Unfortunately we didn't get any photos of the hotels/B&Bs etc which seem to stretch for miles along the esplanade. The shopping centres were busy the day we were there rather than the freezing cold beach. But I can imagine that when the weather warms up, the beach will be quite crowded.
