The reason for all these frenzied efforts was that I was heading off for that hernia repair op in early November. Somehow I had got it into my head that if the worst happened and I didn't survive the op, that my many sisters in law and various female friends of DH would come to help him and I didn't want them to go, 'Hmmm, she wasn't much good at keeping things tidy eh?' I can assure you that now my attitude is, 'So? What's it matter? And would those women even bother? Lol!!
And also back then in late October, I was writing lists...yes me and lists...love them!
Again these lists were what I wanted people to do in case I 'didn't make it'. I was signed up for 3 swaps so DH had email details to contact those organisers if necessary.
Then there were the directions for disposal of my yarn and fabric stashes...
And the directions for the stash of yarn and the blankets made by joining donated squares...
The fabric stash...
Note the special mention of my collection of children's fabrics including my stash of fat quarters of all the fabrics in Jodie Carleton's Backyard Circus...
Instructions for the blog...and a reminder of what remains in an insurance policy after cashing in units...
So...nothing about the whereabouts of items that had belonged to my mother, first mother in law and my 2 grandmothers that I would want to pass on to my girls. No information of any accounts that might need paying...oh just heaps of things that I didn't think of! Lol. Good job I survived isn't it? LolAnd of course, I have more room in my wardrobe and nice clean and tidy kitchen cupboards!!
You must have been a girl guide (or a boy scout in a former life) xox
ReplyDeleteMaria, this is too funny. I do the same thing and for the same reasons - I'm always making lists (and should have a master list of my lists). Many years ago we were going on a winter vacation and my MIL was coming to stay with our teenagers which was a lot like letting the fox mind the chickens, lol. Anyway, I left a list for her and the kids and my older son commented that he'd seen 'my novel'. :D As long as we can laugh at ourselves it's ok. The good news is that you survived your operation and got to write about this. k
ReplyDeleteyes - you can laugh now...funny to read but not entirely an unreasonable thing to do...maybe we should all do something similar "in case".
ReplyDeleteMust admit not really given much thought to what the girls will do when I go, I know they are not the least bit interested in my stitching stuff so maybe will ponder about that. Like you the wardrobe has lots of things I never wear, some I have never worn but I think well maybe one day mind you some no longer fit!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness Maria...... I don't think I really care what happens to most of my stuff when I'm gone but can only hope they keep the things that they know were important to me and maybe will then be important to them one day. Bit of a morbid conversation really...... glad your lists weren't needed.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what to say .....great plan xxx
ReplyDeleteYou covered the most important things Maria - your stash and your sewing friends!! haha. xx
ReplyDeleteSo glad those plans didn't need to be put into action. But important stuff to do!
ReplyDeleteI once found an 18ct gold wedding ring in a skip. An elderly man's children had cleared out his shed, and thrown everything into a skip. Before it was removed, I pulled out an interesting looking box which looked like he had probably made it, and inside was the ring. I presume the children would have wanted it if they had realised where he put it!
