During December I post a photo each day on Facebook; these photos are Christmas themed. The other day, after a bit of hesitation, I posted a photo collage...2 photos taken 23 years apart.
Photo 1, taken December 1992...
DD1 dressed in our Christmas dresses ready to go out to a Christmas function...I had been able to make a dress for DD1 out of the leftover fabric from my dress.
So last week when I was organising photos for my Facebook posts, I remembered that my old dress was still hanging in a wardrobe having survived many wardrobe purges...somehow??? Lol. I thought I would take a photo of the dress on its hanger...but then I threw caution to the wind and I tried the dress on...
Well a collage of these 2 photos brought quite a lot of feedback from the FB post, and also via FB comments, my dress is going to a new home...
My niece who loves all things 'retro/vintage' offered to give my old dress a new home and lots of wearings/outings too I suspect.
And in my Christmas fabrics stash, I still have scraps of that fabric...lots of squares, hexagons and circles (for yoyos) have been cut out of that fabric over the years
Great little motifs for fussy cutting...
And while I was looking through my Xmas fabric stash, I found a ziplock bag filled with long hexies, all cut out and some were even stitched over the papers. I had just been thinking a while back, that I'd like to make one of my long hexie table runners...for me...not to give away like I normally do! And now the first few steps in making a runner are already done!!
Well done. So brave. Love old photos as well so many memories
ReplyDeleteThat's great that your dress is getting a fresh start.
ReplyDeleteHello Maria,
ReplyDeleteI made Christmas dresses for my girls but never for myself. It is lovely to see that it is being used instead of hanging in the wardrobe.
Have fun with your found hexies.
Happy days.
Bev.
Fun photos! And how fantastic that your dress has found a new home with someone who will love it!
ReplyDeleteA fun post and good on you for being brave enough to put a photo up after you tried it on again. I can tell you that I wouldn't look that good in anything I was wearing 23 years ago.

What a lovely trip down memory lane Maria.....I read your whole post with a smile on my face!
ReplyDeletehow lovely to see old photos, the dresses are great glad you have found a niece that will continue to wear it and good to see a table runner and other goodies now being made from left over fabrics.
ReplyDeleteYou look absolutely fantastic in both after-before photos! So brave and so lovely ♥♥♥♥♥
ReplyDeleteHugs and kisses
Love the idea of you posting Christmas themed photos and you look lovely in that first pic with DD1. Great that it still fits you too. With all the crafts you do Maria, I'd love to see your 'stash'. I figure mine is way out of control and all I have is crochet/knit related. xox
ReplyDeleteyou definitely need some of your dress scraps in your runner....what memories.
ReplyDeleteThat was brave of you and so fun to see you with your young daughter. Good to know the dress will have a new life with your niece -- and in all the crafty things you will do with the fabric scraps.
