DH and I loved San Francisco when we visited here in 2011, and we visited so many of the icons that time. This 4 day trip to SF was organised around taking a day tour to Yosemite; a trip which we did last Sunday...but that will be another blog post. This post I'll share some photos we took on our stay this time. Lots of reminiscing for those of you who have been to SF I'm sure!
Look at whom I met in the Embarcadero!
Beautiful!
The crowds have been huge being summer vacation time but lots of OS visitors too! So lots of queuing for the iconic cable cars!
We arrived last Friday morning and our hotel was right near Union Square! Views are of the room and streets on the way in from the airport.
Part of the Embarcadero is a number of piers...a favourite being Pier 39.
Lots of gardens along the walkway in front of the Piers.
There are lots of interesting shops at this pier but my favourite thing to do there is to check out the seals. They are often 'lounging' around lazily on some wooden pontoons, or sometimes a couple of males will have a bit of a disagreement. But mostly the seals luxuriate in their environment. Being summer, their numbers were down on what we say in March 2011 but there were plenty of them for me to gawk at! Lol

But we waited patiently and got our cable car ride...
Friends had recommended Boudins restaurant at Fishermen's Wharf, so we tried the seafood chowder in the cob loaf 'bowl' and yes it was delicious.
San Francisco has a whole lot of vintage trams/trolleys from all around the world. They are part of the public transport system but really are too small to deal with the crowds, charming though these trams might be...some of the old trams and one newer trolley bus.
We caught this one in the subway and then it emerged above ground and became a tram! Much more suitable for moving huge crowds ,
Thanks for all of the lovely photos. It certainly brings back memories of our trip to San Fran.
ReplyDeleteYes, great memories here too Maria. My daughter lived there for a few years and my first g/child was born there, at home in an apartment overlooking the city, in North Beach, and so I had a trip every year for a while. Guess you're in Vancouver now?
ReplyDeleteA lovely post about San Francisco. I went there years ago and remember jumping onto a tram and feeling like I was in one of those movies …
