I'm continuing to work my way through Forever Organised list but I thought that I would take a break from blogging about the progress of the declutter and share some more photos from our UK holiday this year.
DH and I visited many places on our trip where 'people' had the most amazing items 'hoarded'...large rooms filled with all sorts of 'old stuff' and cavernous rooms which the public are not allowed access to, which are believed to be filled with the most incredible amount of clutter!!! Yes, I'm describing museums! lol
The last part of our stay in the UK was back in London. We were determined to visit the Museum of London this time. During our visit in 2008, DH had told me about this museum which he had visited in 1981, and had loved the exhibits! So in 2008 we caught the train to the Barbican station and walked and walked and walked...from memory, DH was sure we were walking in the right direction. But we couldn't find it...I may have whinged about all that walking but my memory is vague! lol. (It really is vague as I wonder why we didn't ask for directions?)
With the wonders of the Internet, in 2014 we knew that we had to turn right instead of going straight ahead, when we left the Barbican Station...and it was just a short walk...
The entry is elevated with a sweeping wall leading up to the entrance. When we were there, there were photos lining this walled area...and apparently it was ok to take photos of these prize-winning photos!
The poor Queen... |
Apparently this photo was taken when the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall rode on a 'regular' train service to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the tube service; such a novelty for them I guess! lol
An amazing action shot...
Another one of the Queen...
And this car is how much??!!! |
The Museum of London had a lot of social history exhibits...
How about a 'singe and shampoo, Sir?'...
Good grief...look how tall the 'penny part' of that bike is?
An early sewing machine...
Really awful old posters...
And even some posters from the early 20th Century having a 'dig' at the royals...
A gentleman's travelling trunk...a beautiful piece and so luxurious! I suspect my forebears would not have owned one of these! lol
The museum had lovely old motor vehicles on display...
From the 60s...very 'retro and chic'...
A 'Beatles' dress...
More 60s 'stuff'...I had a pair of black patent ones just like these when I was in Year 12 :-) Loved them to death! lol
This man is John Callaghan but unfortunately I can't read the label
The Bill and Ben puppets; aka The Flowerpot Men
A model of that iconic London building...
One of the ceremonial coaches used by the Royals...
This was certainly an interesting museum...we spent the whole morning there, just wandering from exhibit to exhibit.
Fascinating museum.
ReplyDeleteMuseums are full of stuff, but filling a house with stuff (i.e. mine) does not turn it into a museum!
Hello Maria,
ReplyDeleteLove the Gentleman's trunk, would be rather handy in the sewing room.
Bill and Ben the flowerpot men was one of the highlights of tv watching many years ago.
Had to smile at the shots of the royal family, they are just like us in many ways.
Thanks for sharing your holiday memories.
Happy days.
Bev.
Back home now and able to read your blog again. Always enjoy it, thanks Maria.
