An Easter Monday Drive...

After both DH and I had retired, we made the conscious decision not to go away for Easter any more, preferring to travel during school terms when tariffs are lower. This year we'd had a very quiet time with just 3 family members coming over for visits and meals. We decided to go for a drive on Easter Monday but avoided the roads to the north and south coasts for obvious reasons.

DH likes to take me on 'Mystery Tours' and this time we drove over to the south side of town. As we went along Logan Rd I wondered where we were going to end up. Then, just near the Elna Sewing Centre at Mt Gravatt (the suburb), we turned off and I knew where we were headed then...Mt Gravatt itself.

I had forgotten to take both my phone and my camera...definitely a 'senior moment' when I was leaving home that afternoon! But luckily DH had his phone, so I told him what photos would be good for a possible blog post at some stage. It's possibly only a year since our last visit to the top of Mt Gravatt but there had been some big changes.
Firstly,  a kiosk/cafe has now been built there. It had closed early that day due to the public holiday.

There are now pathways and seating...

There is a large noticeboard with information about the area...

There's a memorial stone...for an Indigenous person who played a significant role in the revamping of this area...

I think that has also been some judicious trimming of trees because the view back towards the city used to be obscured the vegetation... then again I could be completely wrong about that! lol

Looking towards the CBD of Brisbane to the north

Looking now to the north east and the threatening clouds...

There is also a toilet block now built at this Lookout but no photo of that I'm afraid! lol
Lastly, there is now a rather swish new playground in the reserve, just behind the cafe. There were no children there that afternoon...but there was one child-like person there instead!

It was fun!

  1. Looks a great place to go and visit, Maria. Your Hubby's mystery tours must be such fun - you would not know what to expect, but you definitely need a camera!

  3. Lovely to see you having such fun Maria :) The pictures of Mt Gravatt bring back memories - way back to the late 60s when I was working at 4IP (at that time it was at Ipswich). You and your DH do wonderful things together. xoxox
