World's Greatest Shave...

For a number of years this has been an annual event to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation. People offer to have their heads shaved or coloured in bright colours in exchange for donations. This foundation has special meaning for me as my father died of this disease way back in 1967 when I was still at school.  Over the years I have been involved in helping raise funds in various ways and for the last 4 years I have sponsored friends who have volunteered to have their 'locks shorn'. All in memory of my father.

So it was today that DH and I drove up to Brassall which is a suburb of the city of Ipswich. Here at her home, my friend Annie, would be losing her hair for a good cause. Her total monies raised in sponsorship was over a thousand dollars.  So here in pictures is the story of this event...

We've found the right house I think...

Another friend called Maria, tells Annie that the hairdressers are here...the time has come :-)
We all moved outside at this point and Annie and Shaunna pose for photos before they lose those locks...Shaunna did not have any sponsors but she decided to 'keep Annie company'...a real friend indeed!

Take your seats ladies...Annie can still laugh!

The hairdressers put the capes on Annie and Shaunna...there's still time to change your mind ladies...

Tracey, the hairdresser says she's never done this before...she's a little nervous too! For years she's cut and styled Annie's hair, not shaved it off!

The shaving has begun...

Annie is still smiling...brave girl

Annie wants to know whether we can see the large scar she has on her head at the back. When she was about 5 she fell off her grandmother's bed ( I think she was jumping on it with her sister ) and hit her head on the wardrobe, cutting open her head.

Tiger the dog stayed close during the whole shaving event!

Here's Annie's hair lying on the ground...

Back view....

And here's Shaunna without her hair...

These 2 ladies were getting their hair coloured.
Well done ladies...a great effort!

  7. Thank you all for your kind comments... it feels very liberating to have no hair! No bad hair days... no routine in the mornings to try and make it look half decent... it's just bliss!!! We raised just over $1,500 so we're thrilled with that!
