My life with less sugar continues...

Notice the wording of the title...it would be indeed foolhardy to claim that I have completely cut out sugar in my diet, so I prefer to say that I  have dramatically lessened my intake. For just over 2 months this has been my lifestyle change and I made the decision to lower sugar consumption after I over-indulged during the 3 months I was working earlier this year. Both offices were close to bakeries and I was weak...and one of the doctors whom I see every 6 months has nagged for a couple of years about giving up the 'sweet stuff' and the rice and pastas. So 2 weeks before my last appointment with this doctor, I stopped eating 'sweet stuff'; yep! basically 'cold turkey'..

I wondered whether I could make some treats using wholemeal flour and some honey (and eggs and milk etc) so checked with the doctor on my visit...no said the doctor! How about fruit, raw vegies, nuts and cheese when the 'hungries' strike? that was ok by the medico.

An afternoon snack plate to share with DH

But some things have happened which are a big surprise to me. I don't feel as hungry as I used to. I actually have more energy and I can refuse dessert/cakes/pastries when we are out, without feeling  deprived. I can have a cup of coffee or tea without feeling the 'need' to eat something sweet to accompany it.
Woot woot! This is quite a breakthrough after years of indulging!

However the other day I discovered another outcome...I rarely stand on scales...hate them in fact. But I stood on the bathroom scales and saw that I'd lost some weight since being weighed at the cardiologist's office. I'd lost just over 3 kgs. Now even though I hadn't had weight loss as a goal, at first I said to myself...hmmm 3 kgs in 2 months...pretty ordinary. Then I thought some more...it's better to lose weight slowly. Then I went to the pantry and got out some cans of food until I had just over 3 kgs (3kg20grams)...it was quite heavy and I've lost it!

This is a representation of the weight that I no longer carry.
My next appointment is November so it will be interesting to see how all the blood tests go and maybe I won't be so reluctant to stand on his wretched scales! lol

  1. Well done Maria, I gave up smoking after 30 years a few years ago and ended up putting on 20kg. I may need to follow you and slowly give up the sweet stuff.
